Raport for week 40 - 2006

Work with the inner keel and strenparts have been the primary objectives this last period. This is slow, but important work. The inner keel contains two large parts of 60 by 30 cm at 10 meters each after trimming and cutting. Total size prior to treatment is only imaginable. This is large and heavy materials, which none the less require precise handling. The inner keel and eventually the main elm keel between the inner keel and the lead keel will sustain as the key components of the ship. Large pieces of oak are also made ready for fitting to the stern and bow.

We have found large elm-trees growing in Slovakia, large enough for our keel, and we're hoping to finally get the right sort of wood back in our boat.

We're also hunting down all the lead we can find, as the lead-keel will be forged this autumn. Anyone can join in as the furnaces light up!

The M2 compartments are now awaiting volunteers. If you have the time, let us know, and we have the work ready for you.
