Report for week 16 - 2005.

“Oak is not oak, and Oregon pine is not Oregon pine”, is the conclusion of the meeting with one of Scandinavia’s greatest experts on wooden materials.
During the last week we have started the documentation of the materials on board. We need a lot of “American Ash”. As everyone knew America is a big country. It is very important that the materials have the original and right skills we need for M2. Ash from south has some qualification that Ash from the north misses, and vice versa. We need to know from were in the US the 100 year old wood was taken.
In fact when we dig in it, it looks like it came from the forest just yesterday! Again we are a bit flabbergasted. Ash in itself surprises us, but more important, knowledge of boat building in GB 100 years ago, surprise us even more.
We think the leading time of the material will be app. 4 month or less. Therefore it is important to know what and how much. This work will be done within a couple of weeks – and again – the pressure on our financial situation is an issue.

This week we have sent out some Direct Mail, and we have a big stand in Smart club – the biggest and best supermarket in Norway. We get a lot of attention from the nice customers in Smart Club, and we are very pleased that management in Smart Club gave us the possibility having the stand in thie store
.
Next week we are planning a small expedition visiting Lloyds in the UK. Looking in to their archives and meeting the son of a former owner is now important. The purpose is to gather as much knowledge as possible about the Mohawk, and also to learn more of her usage and the building tradition is now important, before starting the restauration.

Exiting days and weeks are still to come!
